Technique

Heated air is the principle of balloon flight. Air is warmed with burners and rises taking the balloon, basket and passengers upwards. The balloons are manufactured from a special coated nylon fabric which allows virtually no air to escape, while the underside of the balloon is made from Nomex.

Nomex is an inflammable material used for the duty clothing of fire fighters. The air in the balloon is heated by gas burners which use liquid propane gas and produce flames of up to 6 metres in length. The pilot causes the balloon to descend by opening valves in the balloon allowing hot air to escape. The balloon then gradually looses height and can land quite gently. If you are interested in more specific details check the site of our balloon manufacturer CameronBalloons, Bristol UK.

Or of course feel free to ask our crew during the briefing.
