Weather

Good weather is essential. This means not too much wind and from a suitable direction. For example a wind direction seawards when taking off close to from the coastline, is asking for trouble! There also needs to be no mist and very little rain. During a thunder storm 4CB Ballooning stays on the ground! Passengers are given a telephone number and a time for information as to whether their flight can take place. Our pilots have meteorological training and use the latest technology to keep track of the weather conditions for the flight.

Takeoff times

During the summer it is only possible to make a balloon flight during the cooler periods of the day: in the 2 hours after sunrise or 2 hours before sunset. During the warmer periods of the day there are too many heat currents which are great for gliders but dangerous for balloons. A balloon can get trapped in a current and rise or fall at a dangerous rate. Winter flights are a different matter and can take place at any time of the day.
